In a nutshell,

One of the concepts involves utilizing AI to create innovative responses, disrupting the predictability in user interactions. The current interface and rewards for each task often follow a monotonous progression, leading to a sense of boredom. This approach aims to break the routine of identical interfaces and repetitive rewards, providing a dynamic and engaging interaction.
The tasks of the reward system are too difficult. So I fake data
Data from the primary and secondary research was careful studied and bifurcated into individual groups to find out most common and important problems. Most users' complaints fell under the reward's category. Other identified categories were Goal, Motivation, Accuracy, Calories, Brand Value and Misc.

Cheating and Prevention
The article on thedoctorwillseeyounow shed light on how to trick smartwatch readings, and what researchers are doing to prevent, giving us an idea on how to design to avoid cheating
Andy got a smartwatch 2 months ago. When he got it, he worked out regularly for about a month. The excitement of the new watch kept him going. However, over the span of 3 months, his enthusiasm to workout reduced.
To create or modify an existing activity tracker application that links to a wearable device, empowering users to be healthier by describing and altering User’s mental model. Ultimately, the goal is to empower users to embrace genuine progress without resorting to cheating.
What FlixFit does
Glimpse of the Project
What was the problem?
Individuals with fitness trackers eventually lose their motivation to workout and resort to cheating the device data. How can we design an app that syncs with wearable fitness trackers to sustain genuine progress and prevent cheating?
How did we solve?
Created a new app to gamify the running experience by crafting exciting daily running routes based on users' preferred theme. Rewards were added to encourage users on completing daily tasks.
Impact
Having a touch of personalization and rewards motivated our users to run everyday and complete their daily goal.

Time

The effect of time
No tangible rewards
Monotonous and predictable outcomes
We found this through
New features excitement - Introduction of new features excited users, leading to increased motivation to engage in workouts and utilize the smartwatch more consistently
Loss of motivation - Interviewees got bored of the smart watch after a few weeks of buying it due it's monotonous nature, resulting in decreased motivation to engage in workouts
Falsifying data - Instances of falsifying data were noted when participants engaged in friendly competitions with friends or colleagues or when there was a reward involved.
| Affinity mapping
To find out common themes
I like it when the achievements are visible
I like trying out new things and receiving rewards. Keeps the excitement alive!
When there's no reward, I lack motivation
The rewards are nice
I reward myself with a cookie whenever I do extra. The reward of sweet cravings motivates me to do extra
Badges and medals are good to have
Competitions for tangible rewards
REWARDS
Most common theme
ANDY'S BEHAVIOR
Derived from the affinity mapping
Boredom - Experience boredom with prolonged use of fitness trackers.
Reward-Hungry - Lack motivation to exercise without the allure of rewards, emphasizing the role rewards play in driving their physical activity.
Deceptive - Motivated solely by rewards, may resort to falsifying data if they fall short of their goals, highlighting a challenge in maintaining integrity.
We learnt a lot about Andy and individuals like him
So how can we help them?
IDEATION
Lets keep Andy on his toes with an exciting new adventure
Idea 1 | AI generated responses

Limitations
Refraining from exercise would also be acknowledged as a form of reward if responses are regarded as incentives.
Certain responses may be perceived as offensive or demotivating, particularly by individuals who are more sensitive.

An additional concept revolved around tailoring the running experience to individual preferences. Users can choose a preferred movie or TV show title, influencing the associated rewards. Upon selecting a theme or title, the app employs AI to dynamically alter the routes and rewards. This personalized running task persists for a week, culminating in the user receiving a downloadable reward as a unique and engaging outcome.
Idea 2 | Customized Rewards
After considering the project brief, our user mental model, and the outcomes of our ideation process, we concluded that Idea 2 aligns best with our objectives. It effectively tackles both the issue of cheating and caters to the reward-driven motivation observed in our user base. As a result, we have finalized and introduced FlixFit as the solution to address these key aspects.
The DESIGN
How FlixFit developed from the above sketch to the final product
The first step involved creating a low-Fi mockup of the idea. In this initial version, the app allows users to pick a title, and creates routes for their runs like puzzle pieces that form a motif. These motifs are extracted from the poster that the user earns as their final reward.

Andy and the others LOVED THE IDEA
User testing of the initial idea
Users responded favorably to the overall concept of the personalized reward-based system. They quickly grasped the idea and demonstrated excitement about the prospect of receiving rewards. This validation prompted us to proceed with the development of high-fidelity prototypes.

Through articles, such as the one posted on roboticsbiz, learnt why and how people lose interest in their smartwatches
Losing Interest
Noted during friendly competitions, with colleagues or for rewards
Falsifying data
Users found it confusing to select prompts without context.
Introductory Page
Users were interested in tracking their progress from the initial day of use.
Progress Tracking
Users expressed a desire to customize their personal goals for their runs.
Personalized Goals
Users wanted the ability to view and choose rewards, highlighting the importance of having options that resonate with them for sustained motivation.
Reward Choice

Design Iterations
In response to user feedback, several pages were added or modified. Initial versions with basic content, avoiding excessive details, were created to test the new screens. Once positive feedback was received, these designs were refined into final detailed versions.
APP INTRODUCTION | New pages added and Iterated
Although an introductory page was implemented(left), it proved ineffective as users were hesitant to read large amounts of text at once. Consequently, the decision was made to divide the screen(right) and introduce interactivity for a more user-friendly experience.

The initial design of the records/progress screen proved perplexing for users, as they struggled to grasp that each date button is interactive and clickable.

ALL RECORDS | New page added and Iterated
VISIBLE REWARDS | New page added
A Rewards page was developed and incorporated into the title selection process, enabling users to choose their preferred reward.

CUSTOMIZING GOALS | New pages added
A new page was created that allowed users to customize their runs based on their preferences. Users could chose their preferred medium, such as miles or steps, to create their personalized goals

Selecting the 'Custom' option reflects the personalizations made within the phone app.
After iterations and reiterations, final FlixFit design was ready! Let's take a look at the final design, a seamless experience between the smartwatch and the phone app.
